Show Notes

If a horse becomes just the 14th to win the Triple Crown next year or the year after, history will be made at Saratoga Race Course. That’s because the New York Racing Association plans to bring the Belmont Stakes to Saratoga next June. It comes as downstate Belmont Park prepares for a nearly half-billion overhaul. It would require opening Saratoga early, in June instead of July. The Belmont is the last leg of the Triple Crown, which also includes the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. Saratoga’s season currently lasts 40 days, running five days a week from late July through Labor Day. NYRA spokesman Patrick McKenna says with state approval, the move will happen in 2024 to allow for the uninterrupted renovation at Belmont.
